Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how The Military Veterans Command (doing business as "MILVETCOM") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the MILVETCOM mobile application ("App"). By using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect We collect the following types of information:
Personal Information: userName, email address, password, zip code, and any other information you provide when creating or updating your account.
Verification Information: We utilize an API provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) to verify your Veteran status at the time of account creation. We do not collect, store, or retain any data from the DVA. However, users who pass this verification process can continue with account creation, and their status as a verified Veteran becomes implicit within the App.
Content: messages, photos, and other media you upload to the App during regular app usage.
Usage Information: we do not collect any usage information such as your activity within the App, device type, operating system, or browsing behavior.
2. How We Use Your Information We use your information to:
Provide and improve the App and its features
Verify your identity and Veteran status (we do not store any of this information
Connect you with other users and services
Manage subscriptions and paid services
Communicate with you and respond to inquiries
Ensure community safety and compliance with our Terms of Service
3. Sharing of Information We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share your information with:
Service Providers: including Firebase (notifications), Supabase (cloud storage), Socket.IO (real-time communication), MongoDB (data storage), and others solely for the purpose of normal/daily App operations
Legal Authorities: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect legal rights or prevent harm
4. Data Storage & Security Your data is securely stored using MongoDB Atlas and Supabase services. We implement industry-standard security measures, including encryption and access control. However, no online platform can guarantee absolute security.
5. Your Rights & Choices You may:
Access or update your personal information in your account settings
Delete your account and associated data by choosing the “Delete My Account” option in app settings
Opt-out of recruiter services by either not uploading a resume and DD-214, or by uploading either of those documents but choosing the option to make them un-viewable.
6. Children's Privacy The App is available to users under the age of 18. However, we recommend parental guidance when minors use the App. We do not knowingly collect more personal information than is necessary to provide our services and maintain a safe environment. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child that violates applicable privacy laws, we will delete it promptly.
7. International Users The App is hosted and operated in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the U.S.
8. Changes to this Policy We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted with a new effective date. Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
